Plans for June 2018

Hello my friends! I hope you haven't forgotten me, because it seems like forever since I've blogged. As you may remember, I have been having building work done. The room is built, but not quite complete. The kitchen cupboards were fitted yesterday, and the kitchen should be fully usable in about a week or so, as we are having solid worktops which take a little longer, as they are made to measure. My house is still in complete chaos, which is very wearing! I am hopeful that the month of June will bring with it some tranquility for my home; I can't wait to get back to normality, and be able to enjoy my new kitchen, which is looking lovely :)

Book Cover: The Events at Branxbourne by Caitlin Williams
So, on to the plans for the month - firstly, I will be reading The Events at Branxbourne by Caitlin Williams. This has a very mysterious sounding blurb - Elizabeth is unhappily married to SOMEONE OTHER than Mr Darcy. Harrumph! From the sound of the blurb something happens - maybe unsatisfactory hubby dies in veiled circumstances, I'm not sure.

Book Cover: Catherine by Sue Barr
Also, I get to welcome Sue Barr back to the blog, with her new book Catherine which has Kitty Bennet as the heroine. This blurb also has an air of mystery to it, with a character who is a spy...

Book cover: Austenistan, edited by Laaleen Sukhera
Later in the month, I hope to feature Austenistan, which is a book of short stories edited by Laaleen Sukhera of the Jane Austen Society of Pakistan. These stories take the themes of Austen's stories to Pakistan and I'm looking forward to seeing how they transfer to another time and culture.

What do you have planned for the month? Let me know in the comment what news you have, what you plan to read and anything you've read lately that we all should know about!

  1. Congrats on your new room! I need my kitchen done too.
Enjoy your books this month. They look great! But, like you, I don't like when Elizabeth or Darcy marry someone else first!
I have Sue on my blog today. :)
    Have a great month!

    1. Thanks Candy, we are getting there, although still in a state of upheaval. Unfortunately I work five days a week, which obviously cuts into my time at home to sort things.

I agree with you entirely, I don't like either E or D having been married before, whether the spouse be nice or nasty!

I hope you have a great month too :)

  2. Such a pain right now, but it will be splendid to have your new kitchen soon. :)
You've got some good books and authors lined up.

    Have a great June, Ceri!

    1. Thanks Sophia! The kitchen is looking wonderful. Just some more sorting, and the floor to be tiled.

I hope you are having a good month :)

  3. Why is it that having a kitchen refit seems to impact on the entire house? I know it did when we did ours a couple of years ago! It's lovely when it's done though, so I'm sure you'll be thankful afterwards, despite the upheaval.

Those three books all look amazing, don't they? Looking forward to seeing what you have to say about them.

As to my plans? I'm currently reading an ARC of Son of a Preacher Man by Karen M. Cox, which is fantastic! Then I've another ARC by a new author and also currently reading chapters of a forthcoming book at the beta stage by an author we all know well. My current audio is The Unthinkable Triangle by Joana Starnes - oh, the angst! I've just finished the audio of Dangerous to Know, which was wonderful and I can highly recommend it. After that, I'll be flying by the seat of my pants, as I usually do with my reading!

    1. Oh Anji, the dust! It's unreal. We had kitchen things not only in the kitchen but in the outhouse that we had demolished to make way for the extension, and also in the under-stairs cupboard that we are having a toilet plumbed into. So everything was in boxes for a loooong time!

I haven't been able to really get into JAFF in audio. I tend to listen to factual, Agatha Christie or Georgette Heyer (re-reads). I think it may be that I can't read something the same genre that I'm listening to, and I am subconsciously saving myself for some 'proper' reading of JAFF.

I have Son of a Preacher Man on my TBR as well :)

  4. Ceri,
You're on the homeward stretch with your kitchen and before you know it,you'll be sitting there, relaxing and admiring your beautiful surroundings!!

Your books for June look very interesting. I've heard great things about Caitlin's story and can't wait to read your thoughts.

Not sure what I'm going to read as I'm in a JAFF slump at the moment.

    Happy reading,Ceri.

    1. Hi there Mary. I am sitting at my breakfast bar typing this. It's such an enjoyable space, even if it's not quite finished.

I am sorry to hear that you are in a JAFF slump. I hope it's not a general reading slump, as it's a sad thing when your reading mojo deserts you. I hope you manage to get some reading in this month :)

  6. Feeling your pain over the kitchen, but it is always worth it in the end. Escape from the mess with a book! We have a leak in our bathroom which has ruined everything and need a new one. I am not looking forward to the disruption.
I really hope you enjoy The Events at Branxbourne.

    1. Oh no! At least my work was planned. Unplanned work is so much worse, as you're not prepared, either financially or mentally, for the upheaval.

    1. Hi Sheila, thanks for stopping by. I enjoy cooking, and I've started a diet, which means that I have to spend additional time cooking, but my old kitchen was so small. It wasn't possible to spend time there unless you were doing something. This new kitchen is much bigger, and we are already spending a lot of time enjoying the space :)
