Planned Reading for December 2014

Hello everybody! November was an odd month, I had a lot going on which affected my reading, but I am hoping that I can have a good reading month in December, aside from Christmas preparations, of course.

Blog Tour - The Muse by Jessica Evans
I have some visitors due to visit my blog this month. Firstly, Jessica Evans, author of a modern 'Pride & Prejudice'-inspired story set in the world of ballet, 'The Muse' is coming for a guest post with a giveaway as part of the blog tour for the book. This book looks wonderful, and I can't wait to read it!

Book cover; Letters from the Heart - Rose Fairbanks
Then, Rose Fairbanks will be coming to call with a guest post and giveaway. She has a new book out this month, a historical 'Pride & Prejudice' variation called 'Letters from the Heart', which is one of my planned reads for the month. I believe that this is a sweet read, and there is no better month for a sweet read than December when I want to revel in feelgood feelings.

Book cover: To Refine Like Silver - Jeanna Ellsworth
At the end of the month Jeanna Ellsworth is due to come here with an excerpt. I have Jeanna's book, 'To Refine Like Silver' to read this month. In this 'Pride & Prejudice' variation where Darcy and Elizabeth meet under different circumstances, initially meeting in Derbyshire. Elizabeth becomes friends with Georgiana too. I purposely haven't read any reviews of this book in detail yet, because I like to go in with a blank slate and receive my own impression, but I understand that this book has quite a spiritual feel to it, and is quite inspirational.

Book Cover Mr Darcy's Challenge by Monica Fairview
My other planned read for the month is 'Mr Darcy's Challenge' by Monica Fairview. This is the follow up to 'Mr Darcy's Pledge', which I read earlier this year. I really enjoyed that book, but I didn't realise it was was only the beginning of the story, so I had a moment when I got a sinking feeling as I realised that the number of pages left weren't going to be enough to conclude things! I am told that this book finishes off the story so I'm looking forward to reading it.

If I have the time I hope to fit in some Christmassy reads too, we will have to see how it goes. I hope you have some good reads lined up for December too!

  1. Ceri, I've just started Mr. Darcy's Christmas Calendar by Jane Odiwe. The plan is to read a chapter a day, fingers crossed I've got the willpower to keep to it.

Then, to make up my reading time, I have The Falmouth Connection and The Subsequent Proposal by Joana Starnes, plus Mr. Darcy's Challenge by Monica Fairview all sitting on my Kindle.

Your other reads look interesting, too.

    1. I meant to read Mr Darcy's Christmas Calendar last month Anji, so hopefully I can start it within the next few days. You have some wonderful reads ahead of you this month!

  2. Ceri -- Just started with Mr Darcy's Christmas Calendar today. I'm treating it as an advent calendar and reading it with my teenage daughter one chapter at a time (each chapter is a new door opening) and it makes for a short easy read.

  3. Ceri, I'm waiting for my copy of Mr. Darcy's Challenge to get here and am excited to get started. Even though I'm sort of a clunky, chunky woman, in my dreams I am svelte, petite, and can wear toe shoes. So, I'm really looking forward to reading Lizzy in the ballet. I wish I hadn't yet read Joana's and Jeanna's books so that I could read them again fresh. You have some real treats for the month. I need more time!!!

    1. Funnily enough Joy I am also petite and svelte... only in my dreams! I know the feeling, there is never enough time for everything, I always wish I could read more quickly.

  4. Those all sound so lovely. I'm reading Mr. Darcy's Challenge currently, but I have Another Place in Time by Mary Simonsen up next and then finally Alexa Adams' The Madness of Mr. Darcy to round out the year. At least that is the plan. I had a good time with Stephanie Barron's Jane and the Twelve Days of Christmas for my Austenesque holiday read.

    1. I think Jane and The Twelve Days of Christmas would make a lovely Christmas read, despite the deaths! It sounds like you have some good reads lined up for December too. I hope you enjoy!

  5. Thanks for the shout out, Ceri! I hope The Muse lives up to your expectations.

Right now, I'm on a bit of an YA Austenesque kick. I'm reading "Prom and Prejudice" and then "For Darkness Shows the Stars." I discovered "Holidays with Jane" on another blog though, so I think I might need to pick that one up while it's still the season for it. So much to read!

    1. I know I am outside the target audience age group but I really enjoy a bit of YA Austenesque! I haven't read any of the books you mentioned but they're all on my TBR, I hope you enjoy them!

  6. Hi Ceri! :) What an interesting month you have ahead of you! I can't wait to read your review of "The Muse". It sounds very interesting and so original! My mind is still full of dreamy moments from "The Blue Castle", but I'm reading some Christmas stories right now! After that, I plan to read "The Maid of Fairbourne Hall" by Julie Klassen. It's been on my Kindle for a while so I have to get to it! :)
    Happy reading!!

    1. I LOVE 'The Blue Castle', it's such a wonderful book. L M Montgomery is one of my favourite authors, I've been counting up and I think I've read the best part of twenty books by her and I'd recommend every one of them! I like your plan to work in some Christmas stories, I am going to sneak some in if I have time :)
