It's the first of the month, which means it's time for me to share my planned reading with you. I did pretty well last month, reading many of the books that I'd planned, but it was an ambitious list, so I still have a few of those left over, but I have some other things planned in for this month too.
Firstly, my non P&P inspired read, which will be '
Sense & Sensibility' by the lady herself, Jane Austen. This was the first book I read by Austen. I've read it twice, but both times were a very long time ago. I found when I re-read '
Mansfield Park' and '
Northanger Abbey' that I felt very differently about the books after such a long time, so I'll find out if the same is true for 'Sense & Sensibility'.
My historical read will be '
Artemisia' by D G Rampton, which I discovered through
Austenesque Reviews last year. It's an historical romance which apparently is along the lines of one of my favourite authors, Georgette Heyer. Artemisia is a bit of a tomboy by the sound of it, but she needs to acquire some town polish. What could go wrong?
For my contemporary read I've planned to read '
Unleashing Mr Darcy' by Teri Wilson, which is a 'Pride & Prejudice' update where Darcy is a billionaire dog breeder amidst a background of dog shows! I kid you not. Apparently this has just been optioned to make a film so I'm guessing it's really good. It sounds like a fun read. You may not recognise the cover, this is the UK cover, which is what I have, though my copy is on kindle.
Rose Fairbanks is due to have '
No Cause to Repine' out soon, and I hope to read that too. This is one of my favourite scenarios, forced marriage, hurrah! I think it's due to an accidental compromise.
Later this month I'll be welcoming H Abigail Bok to the blog. I read her book '
An Obstinate, Headstrong Girl' last month so I'll be sharing my review with you, and Abigail is offering a lovely
giveaway for you too. This 'Pride and Prejudice' update with a twist sees the Bennets in 1999 California.
I have such an awesome 'to be read' list that I could choose practically any of the books and have a fabulous line up. I only wish I could read more quickly so I could get through more of them! ReplyDeleteMy plans are to finish a non-Jane Austen book called The Orphan Train. Sheila L. M. and I are reading it at the same time. Both of us started last night and will finish today. I have several books, actually a whole pile of them, that I'm needing to read, but haven't decided the order yet.
I did just finish Suddenly Mrs. Darcy. What a story! Yes, there were times my sensibilities were put in a state of "oh my". But, the storyline was excellent and well-written.
We shall see how May shapes up!
Hi Joy! The problem isn't so much the reading as the reviewing as sometimes I struggle to find the words and I don't allow myself to start a new book until I've written up the review. Hopefully I'll manage to get through them all this month though! I hope you enjoy your reading :)

DeleteSome interesting sounding books...I need to add them to my TBR pile (not that's it's in danger of shrinking or anything....). I like forced marriage scenarios too!

DeleteSounds like a good list, Ceri. We love to read all JA books over again when we can - can't get enough of her. Hadn't heard of "Unleaashing Mr. Darcy" so we'll have to look it up. I've been reading some other genres lately, which can be educational! We look forward to reading your reviews on these.

I hate that, sometimes a book isn't bad but you just can't summon up any enthusiasm for reading it, it can feel like a bit of a chore. Hope it begins to grip you more. Happy reading to you too, Candy!
