Hello everybody! You may wonder whether I am still reading at all :( Well, I am, but I'm so busy! I went back to work last month and while it's wonderful that I am well enough to work, it really cuts into my reading time, particularly as I am working more hours per week than I did before my accident. The job I'm doing is only temporary too, so I'm job hunting, which is so, so tiresome! You spend so much time sifting through jobs trying to find something to apply for, and when you find something you like it takes hours to fill out all the details they want and fill in all the competency questions, grrr! I keep telling myself that this period won't last forever and I will have time again one day.
I have some blog visitors due my way in July. First up is Maria Grace who will be here with a guest post. Maria has a new book out, '
Mistaking Her Character', which is a P&P variation that sees Mr Bennet as Dr Bennet, a physician who has been installed at Rosings with his wife and family. The family are completely dependent on the controlling Lady Catherine de Bourgh, who has decided that the wilful Miss Elizabeth Bennet should marry George Wickham (yuck!).
Linda Beutler has a a new book due out very soon, '
A Will of Iron'. There is a blog tour from Meryton Press, arranged by Jakki Leatherberry of Leatherbound Reviews, which I'm happy to be part of, and Linda is due here with a guest post and e-book giveaway in the middle of the month.
I will also be welcoming Sophie Turner, whose debut release '
A Constant Love' is getting some wonderful reviews. This is a 'Pride & Prejudice' continuation, which I haven't read many of, most P&P Austenesques I've read have been variations, but this one takes up in the early days of the Darcys' marriage. It's planned as the first in a series, but I am assured that there is no cliffhanger!
Late in the month, I'm taking part in the Poldark blog tour, arranged by Laurel Ann Nattress of Austenprose. I'll be reading and reviewing books 1 and 2 in the series, '
Ross Poldark' and '
Demelza' by Winston Graham. These books are the ones adapted for TV in the series that was shown in the UK earlier this year and is currently being shown in the US on Masterpiece on PBS. I recorded Poldark when it was on here but I haven't watched it yet. I just hope my kids haven't deleted it!
So that is what I have planned for this month. I hope you find time to pop back and enjoy some of these posts when they are up.

A little while ago I did some early reading for the lovely Marilyn Brant. You might well be familiar with her work; she's written some Austen-inspired books (such as the wonderful '
Pride, Prejudice and the Perfect Match' and its follow up '
Pride, Prejudice and the Perfect Bet') and some other stories, mainly contemporary, but also a road trip mystery set in the late 70s. I've really enjoyed all the books written by Marilyn that I've read so when she offered me the chance to read her new book I obviously jumped at it! And today I got this in the post, an autographed copy of her new book, '
The One that I Want' and I got a mention in the acknowledgements! How lovely, and how exciting! Squeeee! Thank you, Marilyn!

As for reading, I can't even begin to name all of the books (print and digital) in my TBR pile... It's staggering. But I'm especially looking forward to reading an advanced copy of a story by my friend Laura Moore. I love her romances, and I get to read her upcoming release early, which is always a treat! And I'm also reading The Girl on a Train with a local book club. We've heard so much buzz about it, so I'm really curious about that one, too...
I hadn't heard of 'The Girl on a Train', just looked it up. Looks very interesting! I very rarely read anything like that, just because I have such a long TBR read list that I don't tend to get to things outside my usual genres.
DeleteI know what you mean re the staggering TBR list, it's a blessing and a curse because while it's wonderful that I have so many books that I want to read it's frustrating that I never seem to be able to read as much as I would like to! Enjoy your reading!
Ooh you have a great month coming up! I'm reading A Will of Iron right now and really liking it. Right from the prologue I was like Oomph, here we go! Lol Then I'm rereading & reviewing Robin Helm's series. I didn't know there was an official Poldark blog tour, yay! I can't wait to see what you think of the books. I haven't read them but have really enjoyed the 1st 2 parts of the film so far on tv. Aidan Turner is GORGEOUS! His hair is like a whole separate character on its own.
ReplyDeleteAh right, is that the body swap/time travel series? I am not sure about that concept, I like my 1800s Darcy to stay with 1800s Lizzy!
DeleteI am looking forward to the Poldark books too. I still haven't caught up with the series. Once I miss the first of a series it seems like such a task to get caught up, and I'd prefer to read the books first really. I liked Aidan Turner in The Hobbit, though he wasn't the main eye candy for me there as my Richard (Armitage) was gracing the screen! I agree, Aiden's hair is lovely. I am not sure about the scar though, in the snippets I've seen it looks a little like a small child has been at him with the felt tip pens.
Will you be reviewing 'A Will of Iron'? I would have tried to get a review stop, but I am getting so little reading time at the moment I thought it'd be safer to opt for a guest post on the blog tour.

At the moment, I'm in Tucson visiting my family, so I'm not reading any books I need to review - there's too much going on here! :) I'm also going to be part of the Poldark and the A Will of Iron tours, but not reviewing either. I am going to be reading and reviewing Mr. Darcy's Rival by Kara Louise sometime soon!

I hope you enjoy Marilyn's book, Candy! I will look forward to your review of Mr Darcy's Rival. I find books where Mr D has a rival quite angsty, I'm such a wimp! It's a book I have on my wishlist though, I so enjoyed the last Kara Louise book that I read (Pirates and Prejudice)

It's time consuming and boring, and you just get fed up of it,so you find yourself procrastinating which of course is completely useless. To quote CF's Mr Darcy 'I shall conquer this!' and get organised so I can claim back some reading time. I hope you enjoy your visit with your family :)

DeleteHope the job hunt is going well. I just hired someone new at my studio two weeks ago and the process of accepting and reviewing applicants took me 2 and a half months! Hopefully it takes you far less to find the perfect job!

It's a very slow process I'm afraid, there's a lot of competition for the best jobs, and so often there is somebody filling them. Luckily temporary work wasn't hard to find, hopefully that'll continue to be the case until I find a more permanent place.
