Planned Reading for August 2016
The year is zooming by, it's August already! With August comes school holidays and although I have some time off work unfortunately I'm not likely to get much more reading done, though hopefully I will be able to spend some nice time with my children. This is what I have lined up to read this month...
I am currently reading Jack Caldwell's 'The Last Adventure of The Scarlet Pimpernel' which features Frederick Tilney (Henry Tilney's brother, from Northanger Abbey) who seems very partial to the daughter of Sir Percy Blakeney. So far, I'm enjoying it very much.
I have Monica Fairview's 'Mr Darcy's Pride and Joy' to read. This is the third book in 'The Darcy Novels' series. You can see my reviews of Book 1, 'Mr Darcy's Pledge', and Book 2, 'Mr Darcy's Challenge' here.
I also plan to read Martine Robert's book, 'Mr Darcy's Struggle'. This is a 'Pride & Prejudice' variation that sees Elizabeth accepting the Hunsford Proposal. I don't know why but I am going to find out!
Lastly, I promised myself that I'd fit in a Georgette Heyer read sometime this year. Heyer's birthday was August so now seems as good a time as any. I thought I'd treat myself to a re-read of a favourite. I think I'll read either 'Frederica' (which features a sister bringing up her spirited younger siblings) or 'The Unknown Ajax' (an estranged family member will inherit the estate, he comes to visit and finds himself with a mystery on his hands). Which would you read if you were me?

I love both of your Heyer choices, but I'm going with The Unknown Ajax for my pick for you. :)

Looks look an interesting month. Some of these I also want to read. Can't make a recommendation on Heyer as I have read neither.
ReplyDeleteI've read them both, lots of times, and they are amongst my favourite Heyers so I'll be in for a treat whichever I choose! I am glad you like the look of my line up, hopefully I'll enjoy them all :)

Thank you Mary! I am in Wales so it's due to rain tomorrow, which is a shame. The kids want me to take them to one of those play places tomorrow so they can roll round in an unhygienic environment! :-/
DeleteHave lots of fun with your family, Ceri! Great TBR list, enjoy! If you can squeeze a couple more, IMO 'The Coming of Age of Elizabeth Bennet' and 'A Remedy Against Sin' are absolute gems, gorgeous stuff beautifully written. There's angst, but SO heart-melting and swoon-worthy!!!! Take care and have fun whatever you do.
ReplyDeleteHi Joana, I am hoping to sneak in the Caitlin Williams book if I have space. That other one looks very good too, I've seen some wonderful reviews of it. I hope you manage to get some reading in yourself, in between your school holiday child-wrangling activities :)
