Plans for October

Happy October everybody! It's feeling autumnal here. Weather wise it's not too bad at the moment, but this mild weather never lasts, before we know it the weather will be all wintry....but on the other hand, that makes it nicer reading weather! September was so, so busy on the blog, and consequently so, so bad in terms of reading. Hopefully I remember how to read, if so, maybe I will fit some in this coming month but I'm really not sure what, I have a huge backlog and have paralysis of choice!

However, I have lots of lovely visitors lined up for October, so we have all this to look forward to...

Book Cover: The Goodness of Men by Anngela Schroeder
Firstly, Anngela Schroeder will be coming back to visit the blog with her latest Pride & Prejudice variation, The Goodness of Men, which sees Elizabeth have a chance to re-evaluated her initial portrait of Mr Darcy's character. I have a beautiful excerpt to share with you from this book!

Cover Reveal: Dangerous to Know
I am taking part in a cover reveal for the Dangerous to Know: Jane Austen’s Rakes and Gentlemen Rogues short story anthology, brought to you by some wonderful authors and edited by Christina Boyd. The stories are all Regency, and all focus on the less heroic characters in Austen, think your Henry Crawfords, Wickhams, Willoughbys etc.

Blog Tour: Mistaken by Jessie Lewis
Debut author Jessie Lewis is coming by with the Mistaken blog tour. This is a Pride & Prejudice-inspired story which sees some matchmaking going awry. Although Bingley has come back to Hertfordshire, Jane is more wary of his return than in canon, leading him to suppose that she is indifferent... and wondering whether her sister might not suit him better!

Pygmalion and Pride & Prejudice mash ups
I heard about a wonderful idea for a mash up, combining Pygmalion (My Fair Lady) and Pride & Prejudice. The funny thing is, though, two authors have independently come up with the idea and both Barbara Silkstone and Riana Everly will be stopping by.

Book Cover: A Most Handsome Gentleman by Suzan Lauder
Suzan Lauder has the most fantastic premise for her new story, A Most Handsome Man. What if Mr Collins was seriously smokin' hot (or an extremely handsome gentleman, in Regency parlance), and therefore finds more favour with the ladies than canon Collins. He knows that he is a good catch for one of the ladies of Longbourn, and why not have the prettiest? Elizabeth will have to try and save her sister from a marriage which doesn't promise long-term happiness.

Phew! Isn't that a great line up! I hope you will be able to join me for some or all of these. What do you plan to read this month? Have you read anything lately that you'd like to recommend? Despite my difficulties in choosing what to read next I am always happy to add more to the list! I hope you have a wonderful month.

  1. Hi Ceri,

What an interesting line up!! I'm not familiar with some of these books bit I must say that I've heard fantastic things about Jessie Lewis' Mistaken! I can't wait to read it!

Susan's book sounds delightful! A gurgles is Mr C? Never thoughts about that before!! I'm presuming this tale will be sprinkled with humour!
Dangerous to know sounds great! What a clever idea!
Recently,I read Abigail's The Darcys of Derbyshire,Regina's Angel comes to the Devil's Keep and Csitlin's When We are married. I thoroughly enjoyed them all, gave each 5* and highly recommend them!

Thanks for sharing Ceri! Happy reading!

    1. I know, it's a good line up, isn't it! I would never have thought of Mr Collins being attractive, but when you consider it, it's an interesting premise. He is so sure of being accepted by Elizabeth in canon, and it's understandable, because he's very eligible, albeit ridiculous. But if he's also very attractive, it makes sense that he'd rate himself even higher, which in turn would affect his expectations. He probably just stopped himself from trying his luck with Anne de Bourgh by the thought that his noble patroness wanted a different match for her!

  2. Wow, the young lady on the back of Suzan Lauder's book actually is a bit on the plump side! How daringly different!

    1. I hadn't noticed that. I wouldn't call her plump, but she is bigger than cover models often are. Probably more reminiscent of the ideal of the time, as our ideal of being slim stems from the 1960s doesn't it.

  4. I have read most of these but not the Mr. Collins as a handsome fellow. That should be interesting. Thanks for sharing.

    1. I still have it, Carole! I had some time free last night to read but I couldn't choose and in the end I reread something. I don't have time for that, too much of a backlog!
