Sanctuary Volume 3 by Cat Andrews - Guest Post, Excerpt and Giveaway

Recently Cat Andrews joined us with Sanctuary Volume 1 and I shared my review of the story with you. Sanctuary Volume 2 is already available and Volume 3 is due out this week. Cat has joined us with an excerpt from Sanctuary Volume 3. She’s also offering an ebook giveaway for those of you who buy your ebooks from Amazon.com. The winner can choose which of the 3 volumes they would like, so if you’re just waiting for volume 3 you could have that one, or you could start the story at volume 1.

Don’t worry that this post will contain spoilers for volume 1, the spoilers are very slight, only that Will and Lizzy got together and I am pretty sure you had suspected that!

Also, join me here later this week, where I’ll be sharing my reviews of volume 2 and 3. You can comment on the review post for a bonus entry. Let’s look at the blurb for Sanctuary Volume 3 and then I will hand over to Cat for an excerpt.

Book Description: Sanctuary Volume 3

She studied him in the gray, dreary light of the morning, and her heart ached as she wondered how she was going to tell him that once again, the past was forcing its way into the present.

Will Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet are deeply in love, and together with Will’s young son Jack, they are looking forward to their happily ever after on the shores of Great Diamond Island.

For Will, the future has never looked brighter: he’s wild about Elizabeth, has found a best friend in Charles Bingley, and his new consulting business is slowly gaining momentum—as is his fledgling relationship with his father.

Elizabeth, too, is deliriously happy: she’s crazy about Will and is embracing her role as Jack’s “new” mom, she loves her job at the Portland Children’s Library, and is looking forward to having her younger sister Lydia settled close by.

It seems they’ve left their troubled histories behind and are heading into the future as a blissful family of three. But can anyone truly forget—or escape—a past that is determined to reassert itself? Can a new love withstand the forces that seek to destroy it?

Guest Post from Author Cat Andrews – Volume 3

While Volume 3 continues to focus on Will, Elizabeth, and Jack, there are two other relationships—Will’s with his father and Elizabeth’s with her older sister—that come into play in this final volume. It’s definitely a case of the past forcing its way into the present; the outcome of choices that were made years ago by Robert Darcy and Jane Bennet have converged and become an unexpected and unpredictable situation for Will and Elizabeth to deal with.

But despite all of this angst—because there has to be a little!—our favorite couple is falling deeper in love and becoming immersed in their life together, planning for the future, and reveling in the excitement and sweetness (and lust!) of new love. Will is working on building up his business, Elizabeth is still enjoying her jobs, a four-legged friend is about to join the Darcy household, and their close friends have become like family.

This excerpt is light and flirty and gives a glimpse of a typical morning on the ferry as Will and Elizabeth are heading to work—though their thoughts are tending toward something else.

Excerpt from Sanctuary Volume 3 by Cat Andrews

The next morning found Will and Elizabeth on the ferry with Jack and Sam. Elizabeth watched the boys as they stood near a window, engaged in animated conversation, before her eyes traveled back to Will.

He was dressed impeccably—deliciously—in a navy-blue suit, crisp white dress shirt, and a necktie with swirls of silver and navy blue throughout. He didn’t always dress so well for work; usually, khakis and a button-down were enough, but today was different.

“Are you nervous?” she asked, looking him over again as he stared at the newspaper on the table in front of them. He glanced up at her.

“No. Why?” He turned his attention back to the paper.

“I don’t know. Big potential new client... I thought you might be.”

He grinned slightly, but kept perusing the paper. “Big potential new client?”

“Yes.” She suddenly realized why he was so calm. “Oh, this is nothing to you, right? It’s just a little hotel trying to give itself a facelift. You’ve fried much bigger fish before, haven’t you?”

He shrugged and cleared his throat, glancing at her again with a glint in his eye. “Much bigger fish.”

She rolled her eyes. “Pardon me.”

He folded the paper and pushed it aside, turning toward her with a look of amusement. “This kind of stuff doesn’t ever make me nervous. Facing the big guns of a large company? Piece of cake. Selling ideas? No problem.” He leaned forward and gave her a kiss. “Asking you on a date? Making love to you for the first time? Way more nerve-racking than meeting with the manager from the Portland Plaza Hotel. Trust me.”

She narrowed her eyes. “I don’t know if that’s a compliment or not.”

“It is.” He kissed her again and leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest and eyeing her closely.

“What?” she asked, seeing the gleam in his eyes. The small smile he wore drove her to distraction.

He raised his eyebrows slightly. “Nothing. Just reliving last night.”

Her cheeks heated but she held his gaze. Grins grew on both of their faces, and finally she turned toward the window, shaking her head when she heard his soft, deep chuckle.

“We should move this conversation to safer territory,” he suggested.

“It was safe. You’re the one who made it unsafe. I was asking you about your big new client, and you were thinking about—”

“Other things,” he finished for her. “Can’t help it, sorry.” He grinned mischievously, flashing his dimples and negating his apology altogether.

“You’re forgiven,” she said, smiling sweetly.

Author Bio

Cat Andrews has always been an avid reader, but didn’t discover Jane Austen until her love of a certain British actor led her to the BBC’s 1995 production of Pride and Prejudice, because she just had to know—why all the fuss over this Darcy guy? What followed her viewing of that glorious miniseries was an inhalation of and immediate fixation on all of Austen’s novels, though Pride and Prejudice remains her favorite (and that certain British actor will always be, to her, the quintessential Darcy).

Her discovery of Jane Austen Fan Fiction opened up a whole new world, and thus began her addiction, and months and months of sleep deprivation, as she immersed herself in JAFF. After reading a modern Pride and Prejudice variation that she fell in love with, she was inspired to begin a cautious but earnest foray into the world of writing.

In real life, Cat has spent thirty-plus years working in healthcare. She is a confirmed thalassophile and enjoys life on the shores of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where she grew up, fell in love with her own Mr. Darcy, and raised a family. More often than not, you can find her at the beach with a book in her hand and her toes in the sand.

Sanctuary is her debut novel.

  1. This is quite sweet for an excerpt! I think Lizzy and Darcy are two powerful forces that will always have that little bit of friction, but there will be more than enough love to make you for it. Thank you for posting!

    1. There isn't a whole lot of friction in this story - it's a pretty sappy romance, if I do say so myself. Lots of love! Thanks Jen!

    2. The friction in this story is mainly external, they are a pretty sweet couple :)

  2. Another fab excerpt! I’m definitely getting this set of books! I love a flirty, passionate Darcy! I hope their problems aren’t too angsty? Hopefully they fight the problems together and don’t let them come between them?
I’ve just read the competition terms properly (duh!) and I’m not eligible as I buy from .co.uk (sob) so please don’t include me in the drawing!

    1. There isn't much angst in this one at all - it mostly comes from outside of them. They have their moments, it's not completely smooth sailing, but the bad moments are few and far between and short lived. Thanks Glynis!

  10. This was an enjoyable and sweet scene to read, Cat. I haven't started the series yet but I think it will be fun. Since this is not a faithful retelling, I look forward to getting to know the story.

    1. That's one of the nice aspects of a modern version with a flavour of P&P rather than a retelling - you don't know where it's headed or exactly who the characters are.
