Thank you so much, Ceri, for having me! I’m so excited to finally release Particular Attachments and tell everyone Georgiana and Nathaniel’s story. I thoroughly enjoyed writing it and I hope everyone enjoys reading it just as much!

I was very fortunate when Georgiana and Nathaniel told me their story for Particular Attachments, but I recently persuaded Georgiana Darcy to sit down and speak with me about her past with Nathaniel Howard, Viscount Sele and her thoughts on various other matters.

LLD: Thank you for agreeing to allow me to write your story as well as this interview.

Georgiana: Well, you were quite insistent. I am unsure of what Nathaniel and I have done to create such interest in our story, but I suppose sharing our tale will cause no harm. No one from my own time will read it after all.

LLD: Tell us about life at Pemberley since your brother married Elizabeth Bennet. Have the two of you become good friends?

Georgiana: I knew when I met Lizzy she would be the ideal match for Fitzwilliam and I could not have been more correct. She works tirelessly alongside my brother to ensure Pemberley thrives, she is a marvellous mother to my adorable nephew, William, and she makes Fitzwilliam happy. He is less reserved and smiles more than he did in the past.

LLD: What of her relationship with you?

Georgiana: She is my sister. She listens to my concerns and we have long talks at times—not as much since William was born, but it is only natural she devotes more of her time to her son. We enjoy taking him on long rambles sometimes. He never lacks for energy.

LLD: William is an active child then?

Georgiana: (laughs) Quite so! He certainly gives his nursemaid, Mrs. Wynn, a difficult time of it, and she had five children of her own! He does give us quite a scare at times with his antics. He is a loving little boy. I find it a chore to be cross with him when he is naughty.

LLD: You have become much closer to Lydia Bennet as of late. What prompted this big change in your relationship?

Georgiana: She is hardly the same young lady I met when Fitzwilliam and Lizzy married. She is still outgoing and enjoys a good giggle, but she is greatly altered. I enjoy her company and she has become as much my sister as Lizzy. We do enjoy long discussions that last late into the night, and stealing biscuits from the larder.

LLD: She has a bit of her own romance, doesn’t she?

Georgiana: (Georgiana nods) She does. He is an excellent man.

LLD: I’d like to move on to Lord Sele. What was he like as a child?

Georgiana: (Exhales loudly) Insufferable, annoying, a pest. Do you require more?

LLD: (laughs) Yes, actually. What could he have done to make you feel this way?

Georgiana: He stole my reticule, I know he took Matilda, and he would pull my curls. I never enjoyed his society when we were young, and he was so insistent we would marry. I did not care to marry any boy, but I especially had no desire to wed him.

LLD: Who was Matilda?

Georgiana: She was my doll. She was once my greatest confidante. My mother would request the fabric remaining from my gowns from the dressmaker, and she would sew Matilda matching clothes. We did everything together—except riding. I could never take her riding. She might be damaged.

One day, we had just had tea when my mother asked for my company and Matilda disappeared. He had been lurking about before and had disappeared by the time I found her gone. I never found her.

LLD: When you were a child, could you ever imagine courting Lord Sele?

Georgiana: Lord, no! I would have sooner eaten a bug than imagined such a fate.

LLD: What did you think when you first laid eyes upon Lord Sele after all these years?

Georgiana: I hoped he would not notice me. If I could have disappeared into the floor, I would have certainly done so, but when he looked at me directly, I prayed he would not recognise me! A part of me believed he would be precisely the same as he was when we were children. Could you imagine? When I was a child, I could kick him in the shin, but I could not very well do so now. Not that I don’t want to give him a good kick from time to time. He can be the most infuriating man!

LLD: He has loved you for a very long time. It must be heartening to know you have inspired such devotion.

Georgiana: Devotion or dogged persistence? He appeared back in my life after so many years, and I am certain he thought I would fall at his feet. I decided after Ramsgate I would never marry. I told him, too, but he would not be deterred. I truly believe he enjoyed discomposing me when he found the opportunity. Of course, it did not take much to disturb my equanimity.

LLD: But you let him have his success. (laughs)

Georgiana: By no design of my own. I have told you on numerous occasions that he is insufferable and I stand by my opinion of his character.

LLD: He must have some redeeming qualities?

Georgiana: I suppose he is faithful and has a certain charm ladies find attractive.

LLD: Is he handsome?

Georgiana: I have heard him described in such a fashion. Lydia claims he is so.

LLD: I don’t want Lydia’s opinion. Do you find him handsome?

Georgiana: He is not unattractive.

LLD: What do you find handsome about him then?

Georgiana: (Huffs) You will not relent, will you?

LLD: No.

Georgiana: Very well. He is quite tall and broad shouldered. He has dark ash brown hair and dark eyes, and a lovely smile—particularly when he flirts. He has these two dimples that peek from his cheeks, and well… (Georgiana coughs and turns red)

Bio:

L.L. Diamond is more commonly known as Leslie to her friends and Mom to her three kids. A native of Louisiana, she spent the majority of her life living within an hour of New Orleans before following her husband all over as a military wife. Louisiana, Mississippi, California, Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska, and now England have all been called home along the way.

After watching Sense and Sensibility with her mother, Leslie became a fan of Jane Austen, reading her collected works over the next few years. Pride and Prejudice stood out as a favourite and has dominated her writing since finding Jane Austen Fan Fiction.

Aside from mother and writer, Leslie considers herself a perpetual student. She has degrees in biology and studio art, but will devour any subject of interest simply for the knowledge. Her most recent endeavours have included certifications to coach swimming as well as a fitness instructor. As an artist, her concentration is in graphic design, but watercolour is her medium of choice with one of her watercolours featured on the cover of her second book, A Matter of Chance. She is also a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America. Leslie also plays flute and piano, but much like Elizabeth Bennet, she is always in need of practice!

Sanctuary Volume 1 by Cat Andrews - Guest Post, Excerpt and Review

Today I’m happy to be welcoming Cat Andrews here with her debut novel, Sanctuary, which is a story split into 3 volumes. Online readers might have heard of this story before; I first read it posted on A Happy Assembly, but I’m not sure if it was posted on other boards too. It’s a modern, Pride & Prejudice influenced story. I’ll share the blurb with you, and then hand over to Cat for a guest post and excerpt and we will round off with my review of Sanctuary, Volume 1.

Plans for October 2018

Well, we blinked, and September came and went! It's always a very busy month, with the kids going back to school and getting back into the usual routines. My birthday is in September too. I had a lovely day, and went out for afternoon tea :)

Now, let's get on with my plans for October. I have some good visits on the horizon. Firstly, the blog tour for Rational Creatures stops by. This is another anthology from the Quill Ink Collective, following on from The Darcy Monologues and Dangerous to Know: Jane Austen's Rakes and Gentlemen Rogues. This time, the focus is on Austen's ladies. I will be welcoming one of the authors from the anthology, and plan to read the book too.

I also hope to welcome Victoria Kincaid back to the blog with her latest story, a novelette called When Jane Got Angry - Jane in this case being Bennet. I can't imagine it, as she seems so serene, but I am looking forward to learning more about the story.

I'll be welcoming Alice Isakova to the blog for the first time, with her book: Georgiana Darcy: A Sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I haven't read many sequels to Austen's works, so will be interested to see what this author has in store for us.

L L Diamond will be visiting late on in the month with a book with a festive flavour; Unwrapping Mr Darcy. All I know about this book is that it has a Christmas theme and features a black cat!

I'm also hoping to take a look at Melanie Rachel's upcoming Pride & Prejudice variation.

Planned Reading for September

Happy September! I love September. It's my favourite month. It almost feels like a time when everything is new and we're starting afresh, no doubt due to the fact that the school year here starts in September. My birthday is also in September, so for me it's literally the time a new year begins.

Well, although this post is entitled 'Planned Reading' I'm not sure how much reading I will have time for this month, because I have such a full and busy month planned here with blog visitors! Let me tell you about some of the people I have lined up to visit this month:

Planned Reading for September 2016

How? How can it be true? It's September already? Who stole August?! I was super busy in August and I didn't read much at all. I am so far behind on my reading! If I read about 14 books this month I can catch up, so that isn't going to happen anytime soon! Despite my lack of reading, August was actually a pretty good month for me in other respects; we were decorating the children's bedrooms. I hate the stress and upheaval of decorating, but they are both really happy with the result, which was the object of the exercise. They are back in school next week so maybe life will come back on kilter and I will get a chance to catch up a little.

I love September, it's probably my favourite month of the year, as the weather in the UK is usually pretty lovely, the leaves on the trees begin to change colour and it's my birthday, which always makes you like a month. I am not expecting any booky goodness for my birthday though, as due to my struggles for reading time I have a booky goodness surplus to work through :)

So, rather than tell you what I plan to catch up on reading, instead I will tell you about some of the lovely visitors I have planned in for September, all of whom have new books out!

L L Diamond is celebrating the release of 'Particular Intentions'. This is a 'Pride & Prejudice' variation which has an unexpected visitor come to Netherfield early on. I have a wonderful vignette to share with you featuring Mr Bennet taking his youngest daughter in hand.

I also have Pamela Lynne dropping by with an excerpt of her new book, 'Family Portraits'. This is a sequel to one of Pamela's previous books, 'Dearest Friends', which is a 'Pride & Prejudice' variation.

Late on in the month, I have Regina Jeffers dropping by with news of her new book 'Mr Darcy's Present'. I don't know much about this book yet, but I think it may have a Christmas theme.

Guest Post from Kara Louise

I want to thank Ceri for allowing me to visit her blog today to talk share with you about a newly released book, Persuasion ~ Behind the Scenes. This is an anthology of missing scenes from Jane Austen’s novel written by 12 different authors. 

As I pondered what to write about for this post, I began looking closely at Persuasion and realized how conducive it is for writing missing scenes. Why is that? Well, there is a lot of backstory. In fact, the whole initial romance between Anne Elliot and Frederick Wentworth takes place before the novel begins. How did they meet? What was their love like? What were they like? What was his proposal like? What about when he applied to Sir Walter Elliot for her hand? How was it that Lady Russell was able to persuade Anne to give him up?

There are other backstories, as well. Their cousin, William Elliot, has a backstory that affected his relationship with Anne’s family. What happened? Wentworth’s time at sea has a backstory. There was Charles Musgrove’s proposal to Anne, and Mrs. Smith has a backstory.

In addition to backstories, there are many scenes that are only briefly alluded to, or barely mentioned at all. How did Wentworth hear about his sister and the admiral letting Kellynch? What were his feelings when he went to visit his sister and her husband at Anne’s home? Can we have more details on Anne and Wentworth’s first encounter? How did the engagement come about between Benwick and Louisa? And finally, what about the wedding - and after - for Wentworth and Anne?

As you can see, Persuasion is the perfect novel to be expanded upon.

Now, here is a little teaser of a post I wrote on Wentworth’s reflections as he rode to visit his sister and the admiral at Kellynch.

“Whoa!” Captain Frederick Wentworth gave a slight tug on the reins, bringing his horse to a stop. He took in a deep breath and his heart began to pound as looked at the crossroads before him.

Taking the road to the left would lead to Taunton, where his brother had served as cleric. How often he took this road when he was visiting Edward. His mouth grew dry as he slowly turned to the right. The road to the right led to Kellynch Hall.

He gave the horse a slight kick and pulled the reins to the right. He did not wish to gallop to Kellynch; he would take it slowly, for the feelings that had resurfaced since discovering his sister and her husband were letting Anne’s home, or at least her former home, had assaulted him with great force.

Has it really been eight years? Wentworth felt as though it was just yesterday that he travelled this road. He knew it well, almost by heart.

As the horse moved slowly along, Wentworth took in the landmarks that were familiar, yet not. There was the gnarly old tree with the large hole in it. He and Anne often commented about the birds or animals that might seek refuge in it. He believed the wise owl would have claimed it as its domain, while Anne thought it would be a perfect respite for a peaceful pair of nesting doves.

The road crossed a dried stream bed, and he recollected how it had flowed with water when he had been here last, after several days of rain. Up ahead and around the curve would be the large tree under which he and Anne sat, shaded by the canopy of leaves.

At the turn in the road he came to abrupt halt. The tree had broken off along the trunk and fallen. Its tangled, lifeless branches were strewn across the meadow, void of any greenery. A few small twigs were sprouting from the trunk where it had split, attempting, so it seemed, to bring life back into it. He surmised it was a useless case.

Will I see her? He shook his head, wondering which he feared more: encountering her again or not seeing her. The family was apparently going to reside in Bath, so most likely he would be spared having to face her. A very familiar sense of regret flooded him, causing an ache that was as fresh as when she first broke off their engagement. In recent years those feelings had gradually diminished as he resolutely pushed them down when they chanced to surface. Until, that is, he received the letter from his sister, informing him about their letting of Kellynch.

Another bend in the road and a slight incline were all that was left before he would have his first view of the manor since leaving these parts in great anguish of soul.  He nudged the horse along, knowing exactly what he would see. The place was etched in his mind, and it held such tender memories as well as heartrending ones.

He shook his head and kicked the horse soundly. Enough of this sentimentality! Miss Anne Elliot has no hold over my heart any longer!

The horse took off in a fierce gallop, as if sensing its rider’s mood, leaving a trail of kicked up dust behind them.

Author Bio

Kara Louise began writing Austen inspired stories in 2001 and began publishing them in 2006. She has written sequels, variations, different POV retellings, and modern versions of “Pride and Prejudice.”

She grew up in the San Fernando Valley, just north of Los Angeles. She and her family moved to Kansas from Los Angeles in 1991, and in September, 2013, she and her husband moved to 5 wooded acres in the St. Louis area to be near their son and his wife. They now have two granddaughters they enjoy spending time with. They also love animals, and have an ever changing number of cats and dogs.
